May Hot Happenings

We are already well into June, but here is a recap of the month of May at our house!

Someone celebrated their 6 month birthday in May!

It is amazing all the “firsts” that occurred this month. 6 months is a big deal!

He started rolling over a lot and sitting in a high chair.

And eating puffed rice.

He sits in a johnny-jump-up, and loves to bounce!

He started using a big-boy bath seat.

He is always developing more and more of his own personality!

In other May news, my sisters found a snake, and so bravely picked it up with their winter gloves on.

Isn’t it cute? I actually don’t mind little snakes like this!

During my garage clean-up project I found a hummingbird feeder. We mixed up a homemade syrup for it (1 part sugar to 4 parts water) and have enjoyed watching a pair of hummingbirds visit it from time to time!

See that little guy peeking out?? That is the best picture I could get, they move too fast!

This month I read Leap of Faith by Gordon Cooper. This was such a neat book! I learned so much about the Nasa system (and the American Government!) that I didn’t know. Reading about it from such an inside source was very interesting. Gordon Cooper did not profess to be a Christian, but I appreciated his views in the early part of the book. Here is one excerpt:

“I was later asked about the comments of a Soviet cosmonaut, Major Andrian G. Nikolayev, who said after his flight in Vostok III that he ‘didn’t see God up there.’ My response was that if the cosmonat had not known God here on Earth, he wasn’t going to find Him a hundred and fifty miles up.”

Well said!

The only thing about the book that disappointed me was that the last chapters of the book were dedicated to UFO study and receiving help from “outside sources.” Mr. Cooper is a firm believer that life on other plants does exist. I say it doesn’t, and here is my reason: if there is life on other plants, God had to create it. But the Bible says that God is not the author of confusion, and this definitely causes confusion and lots of questions! So the end of the book was a bit of a letdown, but the rest was extremely interesting!

I also read “Lessons in Buoyancy” by Kathy Vick. This book was on the Proverbs 31 woman, a topic I love to read on. It was written from a different perspective than usual. Instead of viewing the “perfect” Proverbs 31 woman, it took the lessons that can be learned from her life and applied them to the difficult situations in our lives. It was an interesting book, with lots of great applications. Kathy Vick is an engaging writer, it was a fun book to read!

At lunch, we’ve been reading “White Ruff,” a fictional story about a dog. We’re not quite through with it, so I can’t spill all the details, but we’re enjoying reading about this dog that was stolen and is hitch-hiking his way back home! He is presently living in a circus, so we’ll see what happens next!

Here is an update on the goals that I set for the month of May:

I had to stop working on the yard cleanup project, because there just got to be too many bugs! I made a lot of headway, and can hopefully pick that back up this fall when the weather gets cooler.

Here are my goals for June:

June will be a busy month, as we'll be attending a Music Conference, visiting family, and going to a wedding all in one week! Hopefully I'll be able to get some of the other stuff done as well!

As for my month long personal goal, I have been working on developing a better morning routine, and I think I'm finally getting somewhere with that! I decided to just continue to work on that throughout June, instead of setting another goal, just so that I can make sure I have it down pat. I appreciate all the ideas and comments from you readers, keep them coming! It has been a help as I tried to develop this habit. I'll keep you posted on my progress!

Here are some of the other things that happened throughout May, that got chronicled right here on the 'ol blog:

I completely cleaned out and organized our garage - my biggest accomplishment for the month!
Right next to cleaning my brother's bedroom, which was the grossest job tackled this month!
I taught you how to shorten sleeves
We went to the Maritme Games and Fine Arts Festival at Forest Glen camp.
I participated in the Ultimate blog swap, which was a blast! I always love meeting and interacting with new people in the blogosphere!
We spent a week in Maine, where I played the piano for a wedding.
And I made a trip to the fabric store while I was there. (Psst...you can see the final product of many of those fabric choices here!)
We also chatted about our garden (more to come soon!)

Phew, it was a busy month! Thanks for being such great blog readers and sticking with me through all my randomness! I appreciate each and every one of you!

What exciting (or not-so exciting) things happened at your house during May?

  1. You have been very busy! BTW Kenny was very proud of the girls for picking up a snake... even if it was with gloves on!

  2. Wow! You got a lot done. Good job!!

We had an evangelist at our church in May. His name is Mark Rogers. (www.mrogers.com) It was simply wonderful! Great preaching, and great music!! When you walk away from one of his sermons, you are always left with something to ponder the next day, they are definitely very thought provoking.
I had never seen anyone who plays the piano, and then turns around to look at the audience and sing all at the same time! On top of all that, he is a wonderful piano player, and an excellent singer!!

    1. I'm always jealous of people that can play and sing like that! Sounds like you had profitable meetings!

  3. Judah is so cute- I love bald babies!! :)
And the snake...good for them! I was raised with a pet snake always in the house (yes, in a cage)....not afraid of them unless they startle me. In fact, I once removed a big black snake from the ABC campus while the maintenance men stood around deciding what to do with it. :)

    1. We found a big black snake on campus once that had just eaten some baby birds. Pastor Moore wanted it put in the maintenance building to eat the mice, so I drove one of the Dallas boys holding the snake over on the golf cart. And lived to tell about it! :)
