My personal experience with Zenni Optical

A few months back I took a daring step...I ordered glasses online! Living life on the edge, right? {wink!}

I knew several people that had bought glasses through an online store with great success. In fact, not one person I talked to had anything negative to say about the experience! I put it off for a long time, just because it made me nervous...but I'm glad I did it now!

I chose Zenni Optical for two reasons...
  1. Their method seemed easiest to use and most accurate
  2. Most of the people I talked to that had ordered glasses online had used them, so if I had any questions I knew who to call!
It is pretty easy to scroll through the selections on the Zenni Optical site, and simple to refine your search down to exactly what you want. I was looking for rimless, so those are mostly the ones I looked through...they have a pretty big selection!

Long story short...I was happy with them when they came!

I was a bit concerned about the fit. Glasses are a pretty obvious part of your wardrobe, actually one of the first things people see when they look at you! I don't let what other people think about me run or ruin my life, but I obviously want the features on my face to seem natural and proportioned.

Zenni has a few different tools that insure a good fit:

First, a printable ruler to measure your pupillary distance - help make sure the distance between your pupils is exact. That is probably the most important for correct vision!

They also give you the option to upload a picture of yourself and virtually "try on" your glasses. As long as you take a level, straight picture, this works pretty well!

In the description for each pair of frames, there is a detailed list of that frame's measurements: the bridge, lens and frame width, the temple length, lens height, and frame weight. I just measured my old frames to get a new pair that were similar. Didn't want anything too big on my face...been there, done that! #90sglasses

In the end, I only had one complaint with the whole process, and it could have just been a computer/browser issue. There was one frame I was interested in, but every time I clicked on it, it kicked off my picture and erased my saved favourites. So essentially, I was starting over. :( I soon learned just to not click on that set of frames, but it did make the whole process last a whole lot longer than it should have.

The best part, of course, was the price. I don't mind telling you that I paid about $40 for my glasses, and that is on the high side. I have extremely bad eyesight, so I paid a few dollars extra to get a thinner lens than I would normally need. I also chose rimless glasses, which are one of the most expensive options. But give me a break, $40??!! I paid several hundred dollars for the last pair I bought through my local vision center!

When the glasses came in the mail, I was pleasantly surprised to find they came with the following...

  • a hard case
  • cleaning cloth
  • bag with extra nosepads and screws. Genius!!!

So the moral of this post? I'm happy with Zenni Optical, and I'd use them again in the future! They are certainly worth the money, and they are a much less expensive option than you'll typically find. Why not give it a try? Leave a comment if you have any questions, I'd be happy to help you!

Have you ever ordered your glasses online? Tell us about your experience in the comments below!

Note: I did not receive any compensation or perks for telling you about Zenni Optical. They don't even know I exist!  I just know it was nice to hear personal experiences when I was making my decision to order online, and want my story to help someone else. Hope it has been a help to you!

  4. My husband has bought numerous pairs of glasses from Zenni Optical with great satisfaction. Last year I bought my first pair, and am also well pleased with them. In fact, our whole family buys glasses from Zenni. They seem to constantly add more styles to choose from, and the reasonable price is also a huge plus! Happy Customer!

    1. I hate wearing glasses too, but its a necessity for me! I figure if I have to wear them, I might as well have ones that look nice and feel comfortable. The ones I got from Zenni fit those qualifications! If you ever do need to purchase glasses, I encourage you to give online ordering a try. Thanks for commenting! =)
